“The Arabic language has a charm you can’t resist”
I cannot describe how beautiful Arabic is! A rich language in its vocabulary and words, the language of Dhad! A language used by more than 476 million people, a language whose history extends to the sixth century AD, the language of Arab Islamic history and heritage.
Despite all the beauty and the advantages of Arabic, it is not an easy language to learn. The difficulty of pronouncing some letters of the Arabic alphabet like “ح, خ, ع , غ ,ظ , ض”, the way it’s written, and the diversity of words, dialects, and accents make it difficult to learn. Difficult but not impossible.
ما بقدر أوصف أديه اللغة العربية لغة جميلة، لغة غنية بمفرداتها وكلماتها، هاي لغة الضاد، لغة بيستخدمها أكتر من 467 مليون شخص، لغة بيمتد تاريخها من القرن السادس الميلادي، لغة التاريخ والتراث العربي الإسلامي.
مع كل جمال ومميزات اللغة العربية الا إنها لغة مش سهلة للتعلم فصعوبة نطق بعض الحروف مثل ح خ ع غ ض ظ وطريقة كتابة حروفها والتعدد والتنوع في الكلمات واللهجات واللكنات خلاها صعبة للتعلم صعبة بس مش مستحيلة.
In fact, learning any language at the beginning is difficult. Let’s see step-by-step how we can learn Arabic in an easy and effective way.
وبالحقيقة تعلم أي لغة في البداية صعب لهيك تعالوا نشوف خطوة بخطوة كيف منقدر نتعلم اللغة العربية بطريقة سهلة وفعالة:
Know your goal and what motivates you to learn Arabic:
The most important question here is why do you want to learn Arabic? What is the motivation behind your learning? What level do you want to reach? Is it your love for Arabic? Do you want to travel to an Arab country and communicate with locals? Do you work in the Middle East and want to understand more about your job and the people around you? Would you like to know more about Arab culture and people? Or maybe you are of Arab origin and want to know more about your heritage and language? Whatever your reason or your motive, find it and keep reminding yourself why you started this journey.
إعرف شو هدفك وشو حافزك لتعلم العربي:
أهم سؤال هون هو ليش بدك تتعلم اللغة العربية؟ وشو هو الدافع وراء تعلمها؟ ولوين بدك توصل؟ هل هو حبك للغة العربية؟ هل بدك تسافر على بلد عربي وحابب تتواصل مع الناس من هاي البلد؟ هل بتشتغل بالشرق الأوسط و حابب تفهم أكترعن شغلك و تفهم الناس الي حواليك؟ أوحابب تعرف أكتر عن ثقافته وشعبه؟ هل أصلك عربي وبدك تعرف أكتر عن أصولك ولغتك؟ شو ما كان السبب أو الدافع لازم تلاقيه وتضل تذكر حالك ليه بلشت هاد المشوار!

You know your motivation and your goal. You really want to study Arabic and speak fluently, but how will you reach this goal?
Study – Memorize – Review – Repeat
I remember one of my students always telling me:
“Hanan, Arabic is beautiful, but there are too many words to memorize.”
I say yes, Arabic is not easy, but with patience and perseverance, you will reach your goal.
Be smart and know how you are. Make a schedule to study, try to find a suitable method to memorize new words from the beginning. Memorize five words every day but only five. Ask your teacher, or an Arab friend, to record new words. Then listen to the recordings in your spare time. Make flash cards on paper or use an app like Quizlet. I prefer to use an app because you can use it anywhere, anytime!
Dedicate one hour per day to review the words and grammar you took in the class. Read, translate, and do additional exercises. Importantly ask your teacher to do a review class once or twice a month.

عرفت شو هو دافعك وشو هو هدفك وحابب كتير تدرس عربي وتحكي بطلاقة بس كيف رح توصل لهاد الهدف؟
أدرس – إحفظ – راجع – كرّر
بتذكر دايماً واحد من طلابي كان يحكيلي :
“حنان اللغة العربية حلوة بس في كلمات كتيره مش قادر أحفظها”
صح أنا من البداية قلت اللغة العربية مش سهلة بس مع الصبر والإستمرارية رح توصل لهدفك.
خليك ذكي وإعرف حالك، إعمل جدول للدراسة، حاول تلاقي طريقة مناسبة إلك لحفظ الكلمات الجديدة من البداية ، إحفظ خمس كلمات كل يوم بس خمسة، أطلب من معلمك أو إذا عندك صديق عربي يسجّلك الكلمات الجديدة و أسمعهم بوقت فراغك، إعمل فلاش كاردز ورقي أو إستخدم تطبيق زي Quizlet بالنسبة إلي بفضل تستخدم تطبيق لإنه ممكن تستخدمه في أي مكان وفي أي وقت!
خصص نص ساعة باليوم لمراجعة الكلمات والقواعد الي أخدتها بالصف، إقرأ وترجم وحل تمارين إضافية وكتير مهم تطلب من معلمك يعملك صف مراجعة مرة أومرتين بالشهر.
Don’t be afraid of a mistake, just try!
Student’s personality plays a big role in learning any language!
Try to talk a little even if you do not know many words. Even if you are a shy person, try and do not be afraid. In the beginning, try to talk with your teacher in the classroom and gradually begin to talk more to people who speak Arabic.
Encourage yourself, and if you live in an Arab country, this is your chance! Talk with a taxi driver, or with the vegetable seller or with people in the supermarket. Arabs are very nice, and they love to talk and chat! If you make a mistake, just laugh!
ما تخاف تغلط بس حاول!
شخصية الطالب بتلعب دور كبير بتعلم أي لغة!
حاول إحكي شوي شوي حتى لو ما بتعرف كتير كلمات وحتى لو إنت شخص خجول حاول وما تخاف فالبداية جرّب إحكي مع معلمك بالصف وشوي شوي بلش إحكي مع الناس إلي بحكوا عربي، شجع حالك وإذا كنت ساكن في بلد عربي فهاي فرصتك! إحكي مع شوفير التكسي أو مع الخضرجي أو في السوبر ماركت، العرب كتير لطيفين وبحبوا يحكوا ويدردشوا وإزا غلطت بكلمة أو باللفظ إضحك بس!
Listen to the radio and watch Arabic TV:
Even If you are early in your Arabic journey listen to the radio and watch the news in Arabic. Listen and dance to Arabic songs and watch Arabic videos and tv series. This is a very useful exercise for you. Even if you do not understand every word, you will be able to distinguish more Arabic sounds, and know more about Arab culture.
إسمع راديو وإحضر تلفزيون بالعربي:
لو لساتك في بداية مشوارك مع العربي، إسمع الردايو والأخبار بالعربي، إسمع أرقص مع الأغاني العربية، إحضر فيديوهات ومسلسلات عربية، هاد تمرين كتير مفيد إلك حتى لو ما فهمت مية بالمية رح تميز أكتر الأصوات العربية، وتعرف أكتر عن الثقافة العربية.
Love the language and have fun!
The last piece of advice I’ll give you is to love Arabic and enjoy learning it. Sure, it is necessary to be motivated to study, memorize and review, but the most important thing is the love of language. If you love the language, you will Succeed in it. Do not give up. You are capable of learning Arabic, and you will reach your goal!

أخر نصيحة بيقدملك إياها هي إنك تحب اللغة العربية وتستمتع بتعلمها. أكيد لازم يكون في دافع للدراسة ولازم تحفظ وتراجع الدروس بس أهم إشي هو حب اللغة، إزا حبيت اللغة رح تبدع فيها، أبداً ما تستسلم وإنت قادرعلى تعلم العربي ورح توصل لهدفك!
