AMMIYEH

Ammiyeh, or colloquial Arabic, is a widely spoken dialect used by millions across the Arab world. It is a rich and diverse language, with significant variations from one region to another. The differences in the dialects reflect each region’s unique cultural and historical backgrounds. From the Maghreb to the Levant and the Gulf, every region has its own unique dialect that is deeply rooted in its local traditions, customs, and history.

When it comes to everyday communication, Ammiyeh is the spoken dialect of choice. Each region has its own unique dialect, such as the Levantine dialect that groups together the Jordanian, Palestinian, Syrian, and Lebanese dialects. While they share many similarities, they also have distinct differences that make each dialect unique.

MSA

Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) is a formal language that serves as the official standard language in all Arabic-speaking countries. It is also widely used in international media, diplomatic communication, and academic settings. MSA is the language used in the Quran, which is the holy book of Islam and is considered the most significant text in Arabic literature. Additionally, MSA is used in most books, newspapers, and official papers, making it an essential language to learn for anyone interested in working or traveling to Arabic-speaking countries. Learning MSA can also open up opportunities to explore the rich cultural heritage of the Arab world through literature, poetry, and other forms of art. It is a language with a rich history and deep roots, dating back to the 4th century CE, and its influence can be seen in numerous languages and cultures around the world.

FAQFAQ

If you’re considering learning Arabic, it’s important to understand the differences between Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and Ammiyeh, colloquial Arabic. MSA is the official standard language used in all Arabic-speaking countries, and is typically used in formal settings such as in the Quran, newspapers, literature, schools, and official documents. This makes it an excellent choice for students who are studying abroad and want to read the newspaper or understand media, or for those whose majors are in Middle Eastern affairs, or who have a goal of working in a non-governmental organization (NGO).

On the other hand, if your goal is to travel to an Arabic-speaking country or live there, and your focus is on speaking and understanding locals, then Ammiyeh is the best option. It’s the spoken dialect used for everyday communication, and each region has its unique dialect that reflects its cultural and historical background. For example, the Levantine dialect groups together the Jordanian, Palestinian, Syrian, and Lebanese dialects, which share many similarities but also have distinct differences. While Arabs can understand MSA and use it in some situations, they mostly rely on Ammiyeh in their daily lives.

At our language learning sessions, you can expect a personalized plan that caters to your unique proficiency level. We’ll prioritize topics that align with your interests, ensuring an engaging and meaningful learning experience.

I’ll work with you to enhance your reading, speaking, listening, and grammar skills through enjoyable and constructive exercises. If you ever have questions about the language or culture, I’ll be there to provide clear and helpful explanations. Together, we’ll practice, review, and reinforce new concepts, all while having some fun and laughter.

As each student has their individual learning style, I’ll take the time to identify your preferred approach and adapt my teaching methods accordingly. Whether you choose to join me in 1-on-1, 2-on-1, or group classes, I’m committed to guiding you on your Arabic language journey.

While face-to-face learning is a popular choice for many, it’s important to acknowledge the benefits of online learning. In 2020, most of my students successfully took some or all of their classes online with me.

I’ve honed my teaching skills to ensure that the online learning experience is as effective and enjoyable as possible. We’ll work together to make sure our classes are well-structured, engaging, and fun, even if we’re not in the same physical location.

To facilitate our online sessions, I offer flexible options for video conferencing, including Google Hangouts, Microsoft Meet, and Skype. These tools provide us with the opportunity to connect and learn no matter where we are in the world.

To ensure that we’re the right fit for each other, I provide a 1-hour trial class for a nominal fee of 10$. This session offers you the chance to explore the learning experience before committing to a full month’s schedule.

During the trial class, I’ll also assess your proficiency level and get to know you better. This enables me to tailor future classes to your specific needs and preferences, ensuring that our time together is as productive and enjoyable as possible.
